Library Profile :
Chandernagore College is among one of the forerunning government colleges of West Bengal. Situated on the west bank of river Hooghly, the college boasts its prestigious presence with a nice campus and enchanting surrounding.

Originally established as a Primary School in 1862 & was closed down in 1908. In 1931 it was re-established as ‘Duplex College’. After independence, the college was handed over to the Govt. of West Bengal and finally its name was changed to ‘Chandernagore College’ in 1954.

The College Library started in the year 1931 with 500 Books.

Number of Books and amount of annual Library Grants have been increasing gradually.

At present the library has 1,09504 volumes purchased from the grant received from State Govt. and UGC. Apart from this, 766 bound volumes of old journals gifted by Mr. Harihar Seth, the immense archival value of which is worth mentioning.

The students as well as the teachers get the facilities of the Open Access System to find out their books from the library. Students, teachers and staff must have to seek clearance certificate from the librarian before leaving this college after study/transfer/retirement.

Budget and Financing :
The financial sources of the Library are mainly grant from the State Govt. and the Grant from University Grant Commission (UGC). The sanctioned grant is proportionately allocated to each department of the College to purchase books.

Preservation :
  • Book Binding, Book Dusting & Pest Control are done on a regular basis.
  • Old and valuable rare documents are fumigated in the fumigation chamber of the library.
Working Hours :
  • Weekdays – 10:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
  • Saturday – 10:30 A.M. to 2:30 P.M.

Automation :
The college authority has taken appropriate steps to computerize the library using KOHA Software. Information relating to four thousand books have already been incorporated in the database. The work of data entry relating to the remaining books will commence as soon as funds are made available.

Reprographic Service :
This service is provided to the readers of the college library.

Internet Service :
Internet services are provided to the readers of the college through BSNL Broad Brand service connection. The readers are provided enormous facilities to receives INFLIBNET services through the network connections as a result the e-resources services available.
